| We live in a changing world.
Fifty years ago, black and white TVs were just making their way into the
living room. Now every home has at least one color TV. Black
and white cameras and 8 mm movie cameras were commonplace, during that
period. Now, digital color cameras and camcorders flood the world.
When was the last time you took a black and white photo?
Wedding
photos from the 50's and early to mid 60's, were generally taken in black
and white. However, in today's world, you wouldn't expect your
daughter's wedding photographer to show up with the same type of equipment
or film that was used back then.
You expect the companies you deal with to keep up with the cutting
edge of technology in all areas of their business. A company's web
presence is becoming more and more expected. This expectation is especially true
of the younger generations. While many of us in the 'baby boomer' or
'senior' generations might not be completely 'computer literate',
you can be sure this is definitely not the case with the under 30 crowd.
The college crowd and below use the Internet, daily, for everything.
They have tremendous purchasing power and use the Internet for shopping,
browsing, communication, and educational purposes.
They are your
'not to distant' future competitors. Let's say you are a
veterinarian or dentist, currently without a website and are debating if
you need one. Don't wait too long in your decision. The new
crop of vets and dentists are graduating this semester and are setting up
shop nearby. These new grads are certainly Internet literate and
will have their website up and running as soon as they know their phone
number and street address. "Oh," but you say, "That can't really
affect or hurt me very much." While you keep dreaming, they are
buying thousands of bulk email addresses from companies that specialize in
targeting certain groups, such as those persons who live in your area and
have bought pet products online within the past year. A simple
e-mail to these folks (probably some of your customers) advising of their
website and services, could cause you serious headaches. Take your
time in deciding ..... and happy retirement !

Have us design your
website, before these young wippersnapers pose a challenge. Start
collecting the email addresses of your clients. After
YOUR website is up and running, send out an
email to your existing customers advising them of your new website and
your email address. Get your staff in the habit of asking each
client (whether they are talking to them on the phone or in person) for
their email address. When you call to remind your customers of
upcoming appointment, back it up with an email which contains a link
directly to your website. Want to go even further? Why not put
a recurring newsletter on your website? You might include a notice
of new staff member or announce that an employee has reached their 10th
anniversary with your company. Let your customers know that you were
recently named President of a local civic organization or industry
organization. Advise them that you are now proudly sponsoring a
little league softball or baseball team (include team photo).
Promote the fact that you recently received an award or had an article
written about you in the local newspaper or magazine (include scanned
copy). Also, put in information that is relevant to your services or
products. "We're now carrying the ThingAmaGig
2496C - It's the latest and greatest !" "Watch
your pets carefully this summer. There is a new deadly strain of tick
in our area. The symptoms are ..." Finally, remember to add
your website and email address when you reprint your business cards,
invoices, envelopes, and checks. Move into the Internet age ! |
